Education Professions

Program Overview

1st year: Principles of Teaching (EDU 101): No prerequisites. 

  • This course explores the education and career cluster. In this course you will examine possible careers, teaching preparation pathway, professional expectations, professionalism, work place ethics, history of education, schools finances, current trends, and issues in education.


2nd year: Child & Adolescent Development (EDU 121): Prerequisite,  students must have passed Principles or be enrolled in it concurrently.

  • This course explores the physical, intellectual, social, and emotional development of the child from birth through adolescence. In this course you will learn to better understand the way children act, think, and learn. You will practice designing and teaching age appropriate lessons plans.  Optional opportunity to experience a weekend caring for a newborn baby through our Real Care infant simulators. 


3rd year: Teaching and Learning (EDU 201): Prerequisite, students must have already completed and passed Principles to earn dual credit in this course.

  •  Begin cadet teaching throughout SCSC with a focus on incorporating technology into your lesson plans. Gain hands-on experience working in a SC classroom throughout the school year. Assist the teacher with whatever they may need help with including; Making copies, teaching lessons, running small groups, grading student work,  making bulletin boards, ect. 


4th year: Capstone in Education: More information coming soon.

  • This course will provide the opportunity to cadet teach for a 2nd year to those interested in gaining additional hands-on experience before heading off to college.
